Spatial Dynamics was part of a team of consultants contracted by the Treasure Valley Partners program to evaluate growth patterns in the Treasure Valley between 1998-2002. The study was a follow up to the Treasure Valley Futures project. The goal of the project was to evaluate growth patterns of residential and commercial development, and its interaction with transportation. The results of the study are intended to provide an examination of growth patterns and how they relate to current policies.
Spatial Dynamics developed density clusters and analysis using new building permits that were geocoded to build locations between 1998-2002. Residential permits were analyzed for gross density in units per acre for new development only. Transit supportive development, proximity to schools, and proximity to commercial activity were derived from the analysis. Commercial development was analyzed for general growth patterns. Traffic counts from Idaho Transportation Department monitoring stations were mapped to identify areas that have experienced increases in traffic volumes. Miles of new local roads were identified and compared with new residential units.
